Blood Drive – October 19th

We will be hosting a blood drive in the bloodmobile on Sunday, October 19 from 9:00 – 1:30.   You can sign up online at redcrossblood.org by clicking on sponsor code and entering Abiding Presence or you can contact Beth Hartzell at [email protected] or by phone at 919-557-0778 for assistance signing up and she will sign you up. Every donation saves 3 lives and all donations are appreciated.   The last few blood drives have had problems with people not showing up – not from our congregation but from people signed up via telephone calls from the Red Cross.  We are trying to fill this drive with volunteers from the congregation and the community so the Red Cross has agreed to leave this drive off of the call list.  Let’s see if we can fill it up! Thank you!

Farm Worker Dinner – August 3rd

Abiding Presence will once again sponsor a farm worker dinner for approximately 110 seasonal farm workers at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church on Sunday evening, August 3. We will be supplying hamburgers, hot dogs, side dishes, and all of the fixings for the meal. Volunteers will be needed to supply the food, transport local workers to and from St. Bernadette’s, and set up, serve, and clean up after the meal. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the narthex in July. Please contact Dan Young at 919-389-6000 or at [email protected] for further information. Thank you to all who have supported and continue to support this important local ministry.

For December: Please consider contributing a bag full of food. Non-perishable items such as peanut butter, jelly, rice, pasta, tuna, soup (all types), spaghetti sauce, hot/cold cereal, canned juice, canned vegetables, canned fruit, soap, and toilet tissue. This is an excellent way to serve our community. All contributions should be brought in no later than December 15th. That way they can go out in time to help families in need. Questions should be directed to Jo Ann Spaits at 910-723-0797 or [email protected]

Ghana Orphanages

We have the opportunity to assist in a Foreign Aid Project that is helping orphanages in Ghana. The orphanages need everything necessary to raise happy and healthy children. Clothes, shoes, school supplies, books, over the counter medications, grooming products and toys. There are a couple of people from Wake Medical that made a trip to Ghana in 2010 and are returning in July on a service trip to help orphanages in Ghana and we are looking to help supply them with all the things a child needs and wants. The children range from infants to teenagers. We will have boxes set up in the Narthex for donations of new and gently used items and will be collecting thru the month of June. Please contact Lynda – [email protected] or Sonja at [email protected] with any questions or if you would like to make a donation to help with the shipping costs. Thank you for your support.
