Watch Pastor Emily Harkens at APLC on August 17th. (youth Sermon / adult sermon)

Pastor Emily Harkins is one of the bright lights of the NC Synod and the ELCA. She’s the ELCA mission developer pastor of The Dwelling in Winston Salem, a ministry of the NC Synod and the Moravian Church, and a community of faith “where those living at the intersections of homelessness, recovery, mental health, incarceration reentry, and generational poverty are not just welcomed but centered, leading, and beloved.” Pastor Emily was also a speaker at the 2024 National Youth Gathering in New Orleans (pictured above).
Pastor Emily is a good friend of both Pastor Kim and our Pastor Emily, and we were thrilled when she asked if APLC might be up for a visit from her this summer. On August 17th, Pastor Emily Harkins will be the guest preacher at APLC during worship and will lead a special adult education forum after worship to share with us some of the amazing ministries being led by and serving the marginalized communities of Winston-Salem: winter shelters and mobile showers for the unhoused, community meals, and service/ learning camps for youth and adults to learn and serve alongside formerly or currently homeless individuals about the complexity of the systems that perpetuate injustice and inequity. All adults and youth are encouraged to attend this very special event.
