“I believe the church has a crucial role in shaping individual hearts, minds, attitudes and actions to reflect the likeness of God’s Son, Christ Jesus, in daily life. In the community of those who gather around Word & Sacrament, fellowship & service, study & sharing we grow closer to God, we grow in relationship to others, and we grow in our service to the world around us. To me, that is what makes the church relevant in our individual lives, in our family relationships, in community life, and broadly it is what makes the world a better place.”

Pastor Jeffrey Ingold began his ministry at Abiding Presence on April 17, 2002. Having served First Lutheran Church in Nashville, Tennessee and Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, Pastor Ingold continues to enjoy the ministry of Word & Sacrament in the Piedmont of North Carolina.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in on May 30, 1962, Pastor Ingold grew up in the church and was richly informed by the community of his home congregation, Saint Mark’s Lutheran on Brookline Boulevard in Pittsburgh.

After graduating from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music (Voice) Performance, Pastor Ingold spent a number of years continuing to train privately for a career in Musical Theater and Opera. During his 3 years in New York City he had the great privilege of acting on stage in the 1987-88 season of the Metropolitan Opera in the company of Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and many more world-class performers. It became clear through that experience Ingold’s caliber of voice would not be suitable to sustain a career as a performer in that particular field of art.

At that point, returning to Pittsburgh to sort through his options, Pastor Ingold began to sense a call to ministry. Months of discernment lead him to apply, be accepted to and begin his theological studies at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio where he graduated in 1993 earning his Master of Divinity.

Pastor Jeffrey is married to Sarah, who teaches high school math and yoga. He has 3 boys: Micah, Jonah and Elijah and Sarah has 2 boys: Tyler and Andrew. They live in Fuquay-Varina with their dog, Caramel. Together, they enjoy traveling, music festivals, tasting craft beer, eating out, and running between events in support of their very active family. Pastor Ingold continues to cultivate his love for music as he attempts to “master” the banjo. “It is a long way from opera,” he quips, “but playing the banjo is so much fun, and it has a meditative quality. I love it!”
