Rev. Dr. Kimberly Carlson

Pastor Kim was called to Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in February of 2020.  She comes to us in her second vocational calling, her first being a research professor of biomedical engineering at Duke University.  She has an incredible background! Her faith story is inspiring and exciting, and she has had a variety of life experiences.   The call committee and council are unanimous both in their belief that she is the pastor that we have been discerning to come to Abiding Presence and in our excitement about it.

Pastor Kim has 10 years of pastoral experience serving in two prior congregations as primary pastor, most recently as a redevelopment pastor. She holds a Master of Divinity from the Duke Divinity School, a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan.

Pastor Kim is also a wife to Joe Casteel, a pastor in the North Carolina conference of the United Methodist Church, a step-mother to her husband’s four adult children, and a grandmother of five with one more due this spring.
