Children & Youth

Children and youth are a vital part of life at Abiding Presence, we’re so glad they’re here! We believe that faith grows best when all ages are included and valued.

Sunday School kicks off Sunday, September 20th at 11am, right after church and fellowship. We're switching to a new curriculum, "Holy Moly," with each week featuring music, a 15–20 minute lesson, and play-based activities.

Charlie Klusman has volunteered as our main teacher—but we need parent helpers every week to make it happen. With two or more volunteers alongside Charlie each week, we can welcome kids of all ages, including preschoolers. Without enough help, Sunday School will be limited to 3rd–5th grade.

If your child will be joining Sunday School this year, contact Vicar Kirsten with questions or if you need a form but didn't get one.

Mustard Seeds Ministries

Our Mustard Seeds ministry includes children from PreK through 5th grade.

  • Children’s Church (PreK–2nd Grade): After the Children’s Message in worship, kids are invited to a special lesson designed just for them. They return to join their families during the Sharing of the Peace.

  • Sunday School (3rd–5th Grade): Older elementary kids meet after worship from 11:00–12:00 for Bible stories, activities, and fun ways to explore their faith together.

Compass Point Ministry

Compass Point is for 6th–12th graders and meets in God’s House of Rock after worship from 11:00–12:00.

This ministry blends faith formation, fellowship, and the former Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation) program. Students preparing for Confirmation participate in WayPoints, Lutheran-specific classes and experiences held throughout the year. Completing these WayPoints (usually over two years) prepares students to be confirmed in their faith.

The Journey Youth Group

Middle and high school youth are also invited to join The Journey, which meets a couple of Sunday evenings each month.

We share dinner and devotions, serve in the community, enjoy local outings, and take part in ELCA gatherings and Synod youth retreats. It’s a place to grow in faith, make friends, and have fun! "

Compass Point Youth Scavenger Hunt!

Our Compass Point Youth are doing a scavenger hunt through October 17th—but not the typical kind where they're finding things. This one is about finding people. It's a chance for our Compass Point Youth to get to know the congregation, the council, and everything our church does—one conversation at a time.

They'll be seeking out adult members to talk with about all kinds of things, and you can absolutely help them break the ice. Have you gone to OWLS, or Men's Mission, or done highway cleanup with the church? Were you born in another country? Did you grow up Lutheran, or become one as an adult? I guarantee there's something on that scavenger hunt you can help them with—so feel free to start a conversation yourself. You don't have to wait for them to come to you first.

Sunday Fun Day

Sunday Fun Day is a special time for all ages to learn and grow together! Once a quarter, we set aside the traditional classroom format and gather for cross-generational learning following worship during the faith formation hour. Each Sunday Fun Day explores an aspect of our faith in a creative, hands-on way--through activities, conversation, and shared experiences that bring all generations together. It’s faith formation with a playful spirit and a whole lot of joy!
